Fabulous Friday: the Luscious Feeling of Fine Fabric

That wonderful feeling, that you wear something that you love, but also something that just feels great.

A few years ago, I was browsing Ebay, looking for a short woollen coat. Not that I don’t have any coats, but it’s just always fun.

Eventually I found this coat, designed by David Emanuel, who is best known for the wedding dress he and his ex-wife designed for Princess Diana.

Later in his career, he also designed a lot of ready-to-wear items, and I think this jacket was in one of those collections, sold at Harrods and Harvey Nichols in London, and at Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus in New York

Though it is ready-to-wear, it is beautifully designed and finished, with nice stitching and in a good quality wool. It has a distinctive collar and is lined with a heavy fabric. It has become one of my favourite jackets, preferably on a pencil skirt. I did have it tailored and had the pleat in the back removed, because that made me look ten kilos heavier. It is now really “my” jacket! I am wearing it with a vintage brooch, that I found in a small shop in The Hague.

I was the only bidder on Ebay, and I think I bought it for around 15 GBP. Perhaps I have a distinct, old-fashioned taste, it could be. But it is my own style, and I feel feminine and elegant in this jacket.

And as a bonus, it is also nice and warm!
